Not every number on a spec sheet is there to inform you. These are the ones that reliably influence buyers and rarely influence experience.
2MP macro and depth sensors
They exist to make "quad camera" true. A 2MP macro produces images too soft to use, and depth data is computed perfectly well from the main sensor by software. Ignore lens count; count useful lenses — main, ultrawide, telephoto.
"Virtual RAM"
Storage used as swap, advertised as though it were memory. It is far slower than real RAM. Read only the first number.
Peak brightness figures
The headline "3000 nits" applies to a small portion of the screen, in HDR content, briefly. What determines whether you can read your phone in sunlight is High Brightness Mode — a much lower number, and often not advertised.
Charging wattage
Not useless, but misleading. Peak wattage holds for a short window before the phone tapers to protect the cell. A 120W phone is not twice as fast as a 65W one. The meaningful figure is minutes from 20% to 100%.
Touch sampling rate above 240Hz
Genuinely relevant to competitive mobile gamers. Undetectable to everyone else.
AnTuTu scores
Useful for rough tiering, misleading in detail. Benchmarks run in short bursts and reward peak performance, while real use rewards sustained performance under heat. A phone with a lower score and better thermals often feels faster in a long gaming session. Look for sustained-performance testing rather than a single number.
mmWave 5G (in India)
Extremely fast, extremely short range, and not meaningfully deployed for consumers here. Do not pay extra for it.
What to look at instead
Sensor size, storage type, chipset fabrication node, HBM brightness, adaptive refresh, and the length of the security-patch commitment. None of them lead the marketing, and all of them shape how the phone feels in two years.
