"5G enabled" on a box is close to meaningless on its own. What determines whether you actually get 5G is which bands the phone supports, and whether those match what your operator has deployed where you live.

The bands that matter in India

Two do the heavy lifting:

  • n78 (3300–3800MHz) — the main mid-band 5G layer. Fast, and the backbone of urban coverage. If a phone supports only one 5G band, this should be it.
  • n28 (700MHz) — low-band. Slower peak speeds but far better range and indoor penetration. This is what gives you 5G inside buildings and in areas away from city centres.

A phone with n78 but no n28 will look fine on a speed test outdoors in a metro and disappoint indoors or outside major cities. Both bands is the combination to want.

SA vs NSA

Non-standalone (NSA) 5G leans on existing 4G infrastructure. Standalone (SA) runs on a pure 5G core, with lower latency and better battery behaviour. Indian operators run both, and support differs between them, so a phone supporting SA and NSA is more future-proof.

What you can safely ignore

mmWave. It offers enormous speeds over very short distances and is not meaningfully deployed for consumers in India. Paying extra for mmWave support here buys you nothing.

How to check before you buy

Look at the full band list, not the marketing line. Every device page on FindsBest lists supported 5G bands under Network — check for n78 and n28 specifically, and confirm SA support. Then check your own operator's coverage map for your address, because the best phone in the world cannot connect to a tower that is not there.
